Sleep Pods and Rest Zones at Ottawa Airport

Search results promise sleep pods at every airport. Ottawa is one of the many where they do not exist, and it is worth being plain about that before you plan an overnight around them.

What YOW does not have

No sleep pods. No nap cabins. No bookable rest suites, and no designated quiet areas or rest zones in the terminal. There are also no showers anywhere in the building, which is covered in showers and lounges at YOW.

Security closes overnight, so an overnight wait happens landside in the public area whatever your ticket says.

What the terminal does offer

Informal seating, and some of it is decent. The couches and leather benches near baggage claim, along the windows of the exit route, are the spots travellers actually use, and they beat the standard row seating. Ottawa is a quiet airport overnight, so you are unlikely to be disturbed; equally, there is little open and nowhere to get a hot meal in the small hours.

The alternatives that work

A bed you can walk to. Alt Hotel Ottawa Airport is joined to the terminal by an indoor walkway. Very few airports of Ottawa’s size offer this, and in a Canadian winter it is the difference between a two-minute walk and a wait outside for a shuttle.

A cheaper bed, minutes away. Hilton Garden Inn Ottawa Airport runs a 24-hour shuttle over one kilometre; Fairfield Inn & Suites, Homewood Suites and Days Inn are all a short free ride away, with the Days Inn the cheapest of the group.

A lounge chair. For a few hours in daylight, the Aspire Lounge airside near gate 18 sells entry at the door. It does not open overnight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Ottawa Airport have sleep pods?

No. There are no sleep pods, nap cabins or bookable rest rooms anywhere at YOW, landside or airside, and the airport has not announced any. Treat third-party sites offering to book pods here with suspicion.

Are there rest zones or quiet areas at Ottawa Airport?

There are no designated rest zones or quiet areas. The usable spots are informal: couches and leather benches near baggage claim, by the windows along the exit route, which are more comfortable than the standard seating.

What is the best alternative to a sleep pod at YOW?

A real bed, and at Ottawa that is unusually easy: the Alt Hotel is connected to the terminal by an indoor walkway, so you can reach it without going outside. For less money, the four shuttle hotels are a few minutes away.
