Showers and Lounges at Ottawa Airport

Ottawa is a small, well-run airport with one significant gap for anyone in transit: there is nowhere to shower. Being clear about that early saves you planning a long layover around a facility that does not exist.

No showers, anywhere

YOW has no shower facilities. Not in the lounge, not as a pay-per-use facility, not landside. This is the single most common thing travellers expect to find here and do not.

If you are arriving off a red-eye and need to be presentable, the realistic answer is a room. Alt Hotel Ottawa Airport is connected to the terminal by an indoor walkway, which makes even a short booking practical; the shuttle hotels are a few minutes away.

The lounge

The Aspire Lounge is airside near gate 18. It offers access through card-linked lounge membership programmes and sells entry at the door, so a business-class ticket is not required. Expect the usual: seating, food and drink, and Wi-Fi.

Two caveats. The lounges at Ottawa are not open overnight, so they are no help for a night wait. And the lounge is airside, which means security has to be open for you to reach it, and at YOW security closes overnight. See sleeping in Ottawa Airport.

Lounge or room?

For a couple of hours in daylight, the lounge is comfortably the cheaper option, and for many travellers a card programme makes it free. Beyond about four hours, or any time you actually need to wash or lie down, a room wins, because the lounge cannot offer either. See day rooms and layovers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there showers at Ottawa Airport?

No. There are no showers at YOW, in the lounges or anywhere else in the terminal. If you need to wash between flights, the answer is a hotel room, and the Alt Hotel is reachable from the terminal by indoor walkway.

What lounges are there at Ottawa Airport?

The Aspire Lounge is airside near gate 18, with both membership-programme access and pay-at-the-door entry. Ottawa's lounges are not open overnight, so a lounge cannot cover a long night wait.

Can I use the Aspire Lounge without a business-class ticket?

Yes. It accepts card-linked lounge programmes and sells entry at the door. Availability at the door is not guaranteed at peak times, and the lounge is airside, so security must be open.
